Workers’ compensation claim frequency reported by California’s private self-insured employers rose last year, the first increase in a decade, according to the California Workers’ Compensation Institute.

The CWCI issued a report on Monday that shows the incidence of both indemnity and medical-only claims rose slightly from the record lows noted in 2016.

The CWCI report reviews data compiled by the state Office of Self-Insurance Plans. OSIP’s initial summary of calendar year 2017 claims data reported by private self-insured employers offers an initial snapshot of California private, self-insured claims experience for medical-only and indemnity claims reported during the prior 12 months ending Dec 31.
